She was born in Algiers on 3 April 1982 in a fairly secular household, the daughter of a jazz musician father and architect mother. The family moved to Paris amid the Algerian civil war, when Sofia was 10. She trained as a professional dancer, appearing on TV and alongside some major music stars. She danced on tours with Rihanna and Madonna, which she credits with helping her learn English.
Taking the lead in the movie StreetDance 2 introduced Sofia to acting. It didn't take long before big movie roles followed. She has starred in Kingsman:The Secret Service, as alien warrior Jaylah in Star Trek Beyond and in the titular role in The Mummy with Tom Cruise. She's boosted her sex symbol status by lezzing it up with Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde and taking the lead in Gaspar NoƩ psychological horror flick Climax.
