Lena was born in Stockholm on 22 March 1955 to a couple of Swedish actor parents and, after first studying medicine, she quit the hospital wards to follow her familial footsteps. Her international movie debut came in 1984 in Ingmar Bergman's After The Rehearsal. Sydney Pollack rewrote the screenplay of Havana especially for her.
Lena made a permanent move to the US to pursie her career in 1985 and has starred in many well-known movies since, such as Romeo Is Bleeding, Queen Of The Damned, Mr Jones, Casanova, The Reader and Chocolat, which was directed by her husband, fellow swede Lasse Hallström. More recently, she has also proved popular with a recurring guest role in the hit TV series Alias.
