Born Noomi Norén in Hudiksvall, Sweden, on 28 December 1979, the daughter of a Swedish actress and Spanish flamenco dancer, she caught the acting bug aged 8 after being cast in a non-speaking role in an Icelandic film. She had moved to Iceland with her mother after her parents separated. Noomi left home aged 15 and joined the Stockholm Theatre School. Her first break was a recurring role in the Swedish TV series Tre Kronor. She attracted international attention when she played Lisbeth Salander in original Swedish version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, going on to make the two sequels also. Her English language debut came in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows. Noomi has not shunned nudity or controversy in her career. Best actress awards for Daisy Dukes in 2007, for example, saw her totally nude through much of the movie and even get down to some doggy-style lesbian strap-on sex.
